Gandhi was a strong believer and follower of Non violence. He was the one who started the Non violence act in India and freed India from British rule. Since that period, the country is talking about Non violence. Non violence has been preached over and over again, politically, religiously, by various leaders, but non-violence is not a fact, just an idea, a theory, a set of words. India after thousands of years of suffering, struggle, obeying, accepting, destroying each other is reduced to a wilderness of wild thoughtless human beings, who do not care for the earth, or for the lovely things of the earth, for the beauty of the lake, of the swift running river. None of us seems to care. All that we are concerned with is our own little selves, our own little problems.
One saw a bird dying, shot by a man. It was flying beautifully and with rhythmic beat, with such freedom and lack of fear. And the gun shattered it; it fell to the earth and all the life has gone out of it. A dog fetched it and the man collected other dead birds. He was chattering with his friend and seemed so utterly indifferent. All that he was concerned with was bringing down lot many birds. Man is killing all over the world. The marvelous great animals of the sea, the whales are killed in millions and the tiger, leopard, cheetahs and so many other animals are now becoming endangered species. Man is the only animal that is to be dreaded.
“I am the world and the world is me”, “Human consciousness is world’s consciousness”, “Individual energy is mass energy”. These are certain words that have been said by great people in different way. Let’s try to see this today rationally and objectively.
First of all the earth on which we live is our earth. It is not the British earth, or the German, Russian, Indian, Chinese, it is our earth on which we all are living and this is the fact. But thought has divided it rationally, geographically, culturally, economically and that division is causing havoc in the world. There is no denial to it. It is our earth on which we are all living, but we have divided it – for security, for various patriotic, political, illusory reasons, which eventually bring about war.
There is a great deal of talk and Endeavour to protect nature, the animals, the birds, the whales and dolphins, to clean the polluted rivers, the lakes, the green fields, and so on. Nature is not put together by thought, as religion is, as belief is. Nature is the tiger, that extraordinary animal with its energy, its great sense of power. Nature is the solitary tree in the field, the meadows and the grove; it is that squirrel shyly hiding behind a bough. Nature is the ant and the bee and all the living things of the earth. Nature is the river, not a particular river, whether the Ganges, the Thames, or the Mississippi. Nature is all those mountains, snow-clad, with the dark blue valleys and the range of hills meeting the sea… One must have a feeling for all this, not destroy it, and not kill for one’s pleasure.
The crisis, in today’s world, is not economic, war, the bomb, the politicians, the scientists, but the crisis is within us, the crisis is in our consciousness. Until we understand very profoundly the nature of consciousness, and question, delve deeply into it and find out for ourselves whether there can be a total mutation in that consciousness, the world will go on creating more misery, more confusion, and more horror.
So let’s observe the movement of this consciousness and its relationship to the world, whether that consciousness is individual, separate, or that consciousness is of the whole of mankind. We are educated from childhood to be individuals, with separate souls. We have been trained, educated, conditioned to think as an individual. We think because we have separate names, separate forms – dark, light, tall, short, fair, black and so on – and our particular tendencies and experiences, that we are separate individuals. Now we are going to question that very idea: are we individuals?
I remember in the very old literature and many religions of the world, the universe was viewed as a complete intelligent person. In Hinduism, this person is known as "Aadya Purush". And we are just part of this person. The ancient theory goes on to explain that the human body is a mirror of the external universe. The external "Aadya Purush" is very much like humans. So whatever is there in humans is present in the external universe. And everything that is present in the external universe is present in the human beings.
So, our human body has sun, moon, planets, earth, and all the galaxies in it. So if you can be in touch with your inner self and your body, you can be in touch with the whole universe. These people tried to actually map the external universe and worlds with the inner body. And somewhere deep down this is the philosophy and theory behind most yoga techniques. What is more important is to look at it from the technology point of view and how internet has evolved in this light and theory.
Why am I an agnostic? Because I don't believe some of the things that other people say they believe. Where do you get your religion, anyway? I won't bother to discuss just what religion is, but I think a fair definition of religion could take account of two things, at least, immortality and God, and that both of them are based on some book, so practically all of it is a book.
As I have neither the time nor the learning to discuss every religious book on earth, and as I live in Chicago, I am interested in the Christian religion. So I will discuss the book that deals with the Christian religion. Is the Bible the work of anything but man? Of course, there is no such book as the Bible. The Bible to made up of 66 books, some of them written by various authors at various times, covering a period of about 1,000 years -- all the literature that they could find over a period longer than the time that has elapsed since the discovery of America down to the present time.
Today, the scientists and almost everybody on earth believe that humans have been gifted with this power of reasoning, analyzing and arguing to conclude and gain knowledge. We have an intrinsic desire to learn and know which is nothing but intent of the mind to comprehend whatever is there in the universe. We are wondering at the marvel that has happened. Marvel of being born and alive and then question. Marvel of this universe. Marveling and wondering is the direct result of being in touch with the energies of the universe that is again us. We are same as this energy. And somewhere in this happening, something has evolved called mind. Mind naturally is the gift to men to survive in the ferocious world of the past where we didn't have enough strength to fight the giant and dangerous animals. Now, this very mind that helped us survive is hindering our growth. Just like the dinosaurs who because of their size and strength once dominated the earth, and this very size and strength became the weakness that led to their downfall, we are hindered by our mind. Look at 2 people and you will soon realize that the instinct to dominate and put the other person down (just like in animals) is still present. We have just become little sophisticated in terms of language and expression and unconscious, but the animal instinct is still there. And then came the Darwin who said that only the fittest survive. And the earth has seen the evolution of the best. But, somewhere we became too dependent on mind, and the mind, which was meant to help us survive on the material plane, is now binding us down to the material plane. And this is hindering our development and evolution.
Just am thinking if becoming seedless is the end to life. Thinking is not the right word. Since, thinking is not possible when you are seedless. What is seedless?? Seedless means a state where every desire is burnt and nothing left except complete silence. The desire even to exist or not to exist. All thoughts are gone. And this is all sunya, all zero. Right word is pure and absolute.
A person may become seedless and then the gravity to keep him on earth becomes thin. He finds it difficult to stay and work. Still he hangs on. Like Buddha said that he was there to help people, to show the path, Krishna was there to play. But what was it that kept him on earth. What was the thin thread? Donot know. May his desire to act perfectly and play perfectly.
