God is supreme – he is the one who declares truth. He is neither humble nor arrogant. He is the one who gives authentic, integrated statements, the one who lives with his real self and not the false self and hence he is above arrogance and humbleness.

Arrogance and humbleness are two sides of the same coin “ego”. They are like hot and cold degrees of the same energy. The humble person has as much ego as the arrogant person, the only difference is one claim the ego and the other denies it. The arrogant person says “I am best” and the humble person says “I am nobody”. So in both cases “I” or “ego” is there, the only difference is they are claiming in a different way.

Few statements given by great spiritual people are:-

“I am the truth, the way, the door”

-         Jesus

“Above the heavens and below the heavens, I alone am the honoured one – I alone am the honoured one”

-         Buddha

“Sarva dharma parityajya mamekam sharanam vraja – leave all the religion aside and come and fall unto my feet”

-         Krishna said to Arjuna in Geeta

Now each one of them has said truth in their words. It can appear humble to those who understands and it will appear arrogant to those who don’t understand. And if you don’t understand, then there is no need to go to such statements which apparently look arrogant. People who don’t understand or don’t want to understand can find arrogance anywhere.

Lao Tzu says similar words to a professor: “When the superior person hears of the Tao, he practices it; when the ordinary person hears of the Tao, he ignores it; when the inferior man hears of the Tao, he laughs at it. If it were not laughed at it would not be the true Tao.” And you know how the professor reacted to it. He said “How arrogant of Lao Tzu – who does he think he is to know? He thinks himself the superior person? The sage, who knows? How arrogant of him to claim that he knows Tao.

So the God, the great spiritual people, the supreme is the ultimate truth – they declare truth, they practice truth and they live with truth. Truth is neither humble nor arrogant and hence God is neither humble nor arrogant.
