Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus can be found in almost every part of the Australian continent. Eucalyptus trees are quick growers and many species reach a great height. Eucalyptus globulus is the Blue Gum Tree that attains a height of 375 feet, ranking as one of the largest trees in the world. The Eucalyptus, especially Eucalyptus globulus, has been successfully introduced into the south of Europe, Algeria, Egypt, Tahiti, South Africa and India, and has been extensively planted in California

Constituents: The leaves contain flavonoids, and also large amounts of essential oil, that is rich in cineole and eucalyptol.
Medicinal Uses:
• Eucalyptus oil is used locally as an antiseptic, especially in the treatment of infections of the upper respiratory tract, and in certain skin diseases.
• When mixed with an equal amount of olive oil, it is useful as a rubefacient for rheumatism, which helps in reducing joint swelling.
• Eucalyptus Oil is used as a stimulant and antiseptic gargle.
• In croup and spasmodic throat troubles, the oil may be freely applied externally.
• It is also used in ointments for burns.
Cautions:
• It should be avoided during pregnancy.
• Eucalyptus should not be taken by mouth unless under the careful supervision of a licensed health care professional.
• The essential oil can cause kidney problems if taken internally.
